Rainy Portland Weather

Rainy Portland Weather

When planning a wedding in Oregon, especially in the Portland area, you run the risk of not having sunshine on your big day. There is nothing wrong with a little rain, we have gotten used it and enjoy the slower days (only us took about five years). When it comes to planning an event you need to think a little differently. Being prepared for unexpected weather is something to put on your list. If you are planning your event for spring or fall then be ready that a big dark cloud filled with water could spread droplets over your celebration. It’s no reason to put a stop to the festivities! Grab your rain gear and let’s celebrate!

Let’s start with a good ol’ pair of wellies. You have to protect those pretty feet while moving from one site to another site. Hunter is a brand that has lasting power. Their rain gear is built solid and will last a lifetime so you’ll be investing in something you can use again and again.

Add your something blue with these cute short gloss rain boots by Hunter. $125.00

If it’s going to be warm with a chance of rain then try a sandal you won’t have to worry about. These cute and stylish Limington Sandals will get many compliments. On sale $50.00

Yellow is all the rage for weddings. I used it at my spring wedding and loved how it added a pop of vibrance. If you ask your photographer having an umbrella can be a fun prop for your photos. Finding a clear one is even better since it won’t add dark shadows to your faces. This bubble umbrella is $48.00 from Hunter.

Go with a cute clear umbrella with a floral pattern from Totes for only $30.00.

Whether it ends up raining all day (it is said to good luck in some cultures if it rains) or for a few hours have your rain supplies ready. Of course watch the weather report a few weeks out and as it gets closer to your date make adjustments. No matter what the weather, enjoy the time with your family and friends!

Wedding Fashion: 1920s Headpieces

Wedding Fashion: 1920s Headpieces

Ok, so I have probably been watching too much Downton Abbey. But honestly? It is like vintage fashion porn! Mary Crawley has some amazing costumes, and headpieces for that matter, in season three. I would love any excuse to wear one and a wedding is just the right excuse. Any brides out there dreaming of a wedding in the times of Downton Abbey can find inspiration from these 1920s headpieces I found on Etsy. Who knows if the groom will go all the way with the Downton Abbey theme, but it is worth a  shot right? Their wedding fashion is just too hard to resist!

1920s Headpieces Perfect For A Downton Abbey Wedding

agneshart

I love this one because of the lace! Made by AgnesHart on Etsy.com.  Priced at $130.00. Here is what she says about the headpiece,

This is just the loveliest, delicate cream coloured lace.It is extremely old,I believe it to be dating from some time in the 1800s.It is made of the finest silk. I have sandwiched it between two layers of traditional silk tulle net so it can have enough strength to come out and be worn and cherished once more by a beautiful woman or girl! (and then hopefully passed on to her daughter).

willowmooneMade by WillowMoone on Etsy. A chic and glamorous vintage 1920s headpiece. This one is a bit more with all the work hand sewing the crystals, at $480.00. Willow Moone says this,

Luxuriously sheer tulle headpiece embellished with shimmering crystals in an Art Deco sunburst design. Completely hand embroidered with hundreds of sparkling crystals hand sewn with invisible thread onto the finest illusion bridal tulle. Reminiscent of the glamorous Ziegfeld Follies.

dananiBy danani for $145.00 on Etsy. The ostrich feathers are a great touch and really give this headpiece a boost onto a new level of fabulous! Danani says this,

Stunning double Czech rhinestone strands cross your forehead to meet a large vintage inspired brooch. Draped around the brooch are glass pearl bead and Czech rhinestone strands. A spray of ostrich feathers and the tip of an ostrich plume fan from behind the brooch in true flapper style. Flapper headpiece ties securely in back with long narrow ivory satin ribbons.

Shown here in ivory with black accents, although it can be custom made with nearly any color combination you’d like.

EricaElizabethdesign

Made by EricaElizabethDesign for $285.00. For the price, this one has a lot of detail! it also combines lace and pearls, to big wedding trends in 2013. Erica Elizabeth says this,

A return to the Prohibition era style with this soft eyelash lace trimmed with leaf pattern bead-work with a dangling side decor is a smashing success as a wedding headpiece.
Lace & silver bugle bead set rhinestone headband is adjustable in size for comfort…

Wedding Veils To Swoon Over

AlisaBrides

We have featured AlisaBrides before on the wedding blog, and are happy to show off this lovely wedding veil! Here is one snippet I loved seeing on AlisaBrides Etsy page,

All my bridal veils are sewn by hand, not machine, thus there is never visible thread or stitches. I never use glue to attach lace or ribbon!

Right on!

BatcakesCouture

From BatcakesCouture. They say,

This hat is way over the top! It has a hand blocked buckram base that is covered in a lush silk. Then I have carefully sculpted a rose with a crystal center and ostrich feather fringe and attached a half veil with beautiful crystal details.

Sounds stunning. We were just covering feathers as a wedding trend yesterday when I wrote about some fabulous feathered wedding dresses.

LasVegasVeils

Made by LasVegasVeils. This Etsy artist makes everything to order so you can specify the length, color, and details you want. I love the “cap” nature fo this wedding veil.

MelindaRoseDesign

Produced by MelindaRoseDesign. She says about this veil,

Vintage style french Chantilly lace bridal cap adorned with a handpressed silk flower and velvet leaves. Beautiful art deco bridal piece that is sure to make a statement! Available in a deep vintage ivory.

We also mentioned art deco style being big this season, so this is very fitting.
