New Venue Space at Geranium Lake

We’re always on the hunt for some great indoor wedding venues since Oregon can be a bit wet throughout much of the year.  Lucky for you and us, we just found out about a new venue space created within Geranium Lake, one of Portland’s leading floral, event, styling and decor boutiques.

Located at 555 SW Oak in the big pink building (same as Portland City Grill), Geranium Lake offers a great downtown location for bridal showers, weddings and more.  Because they fully operate their flower shop and design studio out of every square inch, the space is naturally decorated with beautiful flowers and furniture.  While this effortless beauty is a huge plus, some brides might worry they can’t add a personal touch to the space.  Not to worry, though!  Everything in the store is on rollers, so things are easily moved to create the perfect space.  They also have floor length curtains on tracks, which can be used to create more intimate spaces.  The front counter turns into a bar.  A selection of linens, lights and miscellaneous props are all available for use as well.  Brides are more than welcome to customize the decor or simply take advantage of all that Geranium Lake has to offer.  We also thought maybe a flower shop would be too small to comfortably fit large wedding parties, but Geranium Lake is so much more than a flower shop with its 5000 square feet of studio space and hosting capacity of 350 people.  We definitely urge you to consider checking out this space for any of your future party needs.  Finally, Geranium Lake is one of the featured vendors at The Art of Weddings bridal show on January 19th, 2012 — all the more reason to mark down that date and join us for a night of fun!

Pure Space Portland

Summer is winding down and the rain will soon be blowing in.  After seeing a wedding party brave the cold, gray drizzle last weekend with only a few small tents as shelter, we thought it would be fitting to revisit one of our favorite venues for indoor weddings.  Pure Space is an urban event venue located in the stylish Pearl District of Portland.  Its grand warehouse space lends a giant blank canvas for a wedding of any style.  West Coast Event Productions (Pure Space‘s rental company and winner of Oregon Bride‘s “Best of Rentals” award for the second year running) will make sure you have everything you need to design the space of your dreams.  If you don’t want to worry about weather on your big day, contact Pure Space to set up an appointment to view the space or come to the Art of Weddings bridal event on Thursday, January 19th from 6:00-9:30 PM, which will take place at Pure Space.

Washi Tape Wedding Decorations

Washi tape is a Japanese craft sensation and bride’s new best friend.  With hundreds of patterns and colors to choose from, it’s easy to embellish any of your wedding decorations.  The four ideas below come from Martha Stewart Weddings’ Summer 2011 Do-It-Yourself issue.  Have we mentioned how much we love Martha Stewart Weddings?  They always have such great ideas!  Keep checking back over the coming weeks for more Martha Stewart tips.

1. Cocktail Stirrers: Simply wrap a piece of Washi tape around a wooden skewer and snip the ends into tails (or not).

2. Guest Book: Make leaving messages fun for family and friends by setting out a pair of scissors, a few rolls of tape and a stack of blank cards trimmed with different shaped scissors.  They’ll have fun choosing their favorite tape and attaching their personal message to your interactive scrapbook album.

3. Favor Boxes: Collect inexpensive boxes and use Washi tape to make colorful designs and graphic patterns.

4. Votives: No instructions needed!  Just wrap Washi tape around any candle holder or vase to add interest.
